Canon Pixma TR4540 Printer Review– The Canon Pixma TR4520 Wireless Entry Printer is designed for lightweight family and office use. As you would expect for an all-in-one at this price, its use is a bit slow and expensive, but it comes with a powerful feature set and prints exceptionally well on photos. Also, like some printers I’ve seen recently, it supports Amazon Alexa and allows hands-free printing. It is a powerful contender for home office users who need a cheap AIO for easy printing, copying, and scanning.
Room on the table
Entry-level home printers, such as the TR4520, occasionally take idle photos until they invite you to take a photo, a few pages of documents here, to make a copy or two. That’s why Canon and its competitors are planning to buy an as little office or real estate as possible. For this purpose, the TR4520 measures 7.5 x 17.7 x 11.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 13 kilograms, which is suitable for low-cost competition.
In terms of paper handling, the TR4520 comes with a 100-sheet paper tray, and the automatic duplex document feeder (ADF) contains up to 20 paper sizes. Its brother Pixma TR7520 has up to 200 sheets divided between front and back trays of 100 sheets. The HP OfficeJet 3830 (the lowest price in this group) has the same number of pages as the TR4520, but cannot automatically print two-sided pages. Finally, the Epson WF-2860 can take up to 150 sheets of paper from an input source.
Canon does not publish a monthly duty cycle and does not publish the recommended monthly volume specifications for consumer inkjet printers. Given the print speed (I’ll discuss it below), the low paper capacity, and the high (also incoming) operating costs, you shouldn’t rely on this AIO for more than a few hundred pages each month; Although occasionally you can shake more.
The basic connection consists of USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi, and the drivers are available for Android, Fire OS, iOS, and Windows 10 mobile. Tasks, configuration, and navigation are performed from a very basic control panel, as shown below.
Pixma software and Smart Home functions
In addition to the standard AIO printer driver, the TR4520 software package consists of the following convenience and efficiency programs: Scan Utility for both Windows and Mac platforms, Scan Utility for Mac Lite, Easy-PhotoPrint Editor, Main Setup, My Printer and Applications fast printer. Menu for easy access and settings.
You can also print, scan, and exchange images on your Android or iOS device with Canon Print and Easy-PhotoPrint Editor applications. Finally, Canon In Print lets you embed hidden messages (text, animations, music, video links, and other creative enhancements) directly into your image. You can then use the camera of your mobile device to view the message embedded in the printed image.
Canon also supports built-in Amazon Alexa, as well as support for IFTTT (If This Then That) technology, Google Assistant, and other automation services, as well as smart home functionality. HP and Epson also recently met with IFTTT voice activation – with HP, Tango X, and Epson and all machines that support the company’s Epson Connect service.
With IFTTT voice activation, you can tell your machine to print through an app on your smartphone or through the Smart Echo speaker and other IFTTT listening devices. So far, we have seen IFTTT technology built into three Pixmas, TS9520, TS9521C, and TR4520.
Not produced for speed
Canon occupies the TR4520 at 5 ppm for monochrome pages, with the lowest print speed values I know, except for the 8.8 ppm (ppm) and HP 3830 (8.5 ppm). We tested the TR4520 via USB from our standard Intel Core i5 equipped computer running Windows 10 Professional. The TR4520 printed our standard 12-page Microsoft Word test document at 8.5 ppm. This is slower than any other input-level printer mentioned here.
Then, we first printed a series of highly complex color Acrobat, Excel, and PowerPoint business documents, including embedded graphics and embedded photos, and then combined these results with printing a 12-page text document in the previous test. With a score of 4.5ppm to print our entire package. This score lags by a negligible 0.2 ppm value for the TR7520 and is 0.1 ppm slower than the Brother MFC-J497DW, 1.9 ppm slower than the OfficeJet 3830, and 2.9 ppm slower than WF-2860.
